mood board
November 28, 2011
hope you all had a great long weekend holiday. this year i didn’t work too hard but my younger daughter made me cook again, for thanks giving. i simply roasted baby chickens (cornish hens?) with lots of herbs and seasoning and a couple of side dishes. was delicious. after all, my husband is overseas and i know i will have to repeat this meal when he returns. soon.
in the meantime, while my husband is on a business trip and i stayed here to take care of everything else, he is my eyes and i got a lot of updates from him and our partners in nepal about my new rug collections. i was so excited to received images of the new designs on the loom. it’s just amazing to me, and i’ve said it many times before, how from a simple idea, a sketch or a piece of something, the concept is progressing and finally a beautiful piece of hand made art is created – in my case – a hand made rug. there are so many steps and hands involved in such a creative process you simply have to admire that, don’t you think?
i would love to post all of the images and updates but i don’t want to spoil anything. i even want to surprise myself. i will, however, tease and share with you one of my mood boards. the background in this mood board shows a cropped image of one of my favorite rug designs this year:
mood board transports feelings about a product or something you like in particular. it’s a way to communicate a direction in which you are going with your design. i love mood boards (most times they are in my head so you can imagine how many moods i have), and when i look at one of my boards and think about the design behind it, i’m immediately taken to another place…sometimes another era. many times i create mood boards for myself but often, and lately, i’ve been asked to show my mood boards beside telling the inspiration behind the design.
so here it is and please, if you have any thought…share.
almost there summer trip
June 12, 2011
hello friends,
i’m almost there. almost. my trip to israel, italy and france is waiting for me…one more day to go.
my posts this summer will be sporadic but i know i’ll take a lot of inspiring photos, meet inspiring people and visit inspiring places. will share it all.
it’s a beautiful day here and i intend to enjoy and relax…before the long flights. my new ipad 2…silliest most expensive toy i’ve ever bought for myself…will accompany me in the wee hours. not that i know how to use it…or my new touch phone. even when i do, that doesn’t mean i know what i’m doing…
have a great and inspiring summer everyone.

Hint of tint

Come to think of it I never liked roses. of any color. never appreciated their delicate scent or shape…didn’t even want to draw them.
Maybe because everyone I knew painted them…looked too easy…everyone I knew liked rose smelling perfumes…or rose color of anything.
But now…now I changed my mind…maybe because I have roses finally growing in my garden…and I’m able to watch them open up each day…washed with morning sun…their delicate smell…light hint of pink is just so right.
Not that I’m crazy about roses now or pink color…but I love the clues and possibilities this color offers…clues of hues that can be found in a can of almost white paint…it has a sheer hint of pink…a color that at night with mood lights turns into a light taupe hue. I call it a vague color…and I rolled it on my living room walls.
enjoy images of clues and hues
Roses are unique…I can’t believe I’m saying this…but it’s true…in my close observation I found the flower to be symmetrical and its numerous petals are distributed evenly, almost to a perfect circle…and the texture is super velvety.
o.k. it’s not a rose but still…pink.
my reading corner has light color pink walls

My reading corner has a chair I just reupholstered…will write a post about this diy. You have to see it to believe it!
Seriously now, what girl doesn’t like pink? any pink? do you have a pink story you’d like to share? can a girl grow out of pink? yes? no? my youngest daughter…maybe…but that doesn’t count. I know some men who like pink…my dad included…I think my husband too…but I don’t think he knows that yet.
In the meantime,
Bonne journée.

There are some things in life that keep me from sitting and writing posts every day (which would be ideal for me. Just for me)…I’m sure you know what I mean when I say ‘life’. I have a lot to talk about… inspiration is everywhere and I can go on and on… but the good news is that I just got this amazing new camera… it forces me to create a new hobby: photography.
Not that I didn’t take pictures before but that camera is a sexy little piece of machine, that allows me to take shots of my rugs, room settings, samples, drawings and paintings…anything. It’s just that…when I take photos with the new camera I’m actually sitting on the ground, aiming at a subject…adjusting…exposure…light…composition…you know…almost like a pro.
…and this is only one example…of the many things she can do for me…
Amazed at the new perspective…when all is contained… in one tiny lens…
… the night was so gorgeous I had to get out to my backyard and take some pictures of my plants…
…while my husband is shouting from the inside…the plans for our next project…
I’m all for…ambiance…
…through my new “eyes” darkness is already looking better…
…drama and ambiance…
oh, I could imagine all kinds of things happening with these two words…
…a tree trunk that looks boring during the day…look at it now…
This is my next botanical painting.
…this plant took over my backyard…now takes over the neighbor’s…hope he wont mind.
…looks like a giant illuminated pink umbrella…
simply stunning.
…and the ambiance changes…
early morning…very early…
Love calla genus (lily).
I illustrated this elegant flower in pen and ink and gave it to a friend as Hanukkah present. We are not friends anymore (she didn’t like my painting?…) ha.
I can always make a new one…(friend or illustration?)
Can you see the hair on this gorgeous purple flower?? It looks right back at you.
…a neighbor’s butterfly-weed took over my yard…now I don’t have to buy it…
…every girl loves pink… right?…bright…light…gorgeous pink…right?
Have this orange tree for a couple of years now…and only one orange…
doesn’t even smell like one…
you can tell by the leafs…
maybe it needs some vitamin c…
Last minute change in our backyard makeover design (yay)… few hours later we installed this beautiful noisy fountain.
I love noise.
Can’t wait to experiment more with my camera.
But like anything else…
practice…practice…practice.
